Mothers Day Celebration
El Centro held its very first Mothers Day Celebration on Friday, May 9, 2014 attended by 150 proud mothers and loving children. Everyone enjoyed a delicious pasta dinner with salad and dessert. Children prepared Mothers Day cards and “Special Mom” certificates for their mothers. Thanks to a generous donation by Nitin Thakkar, children were able to present their mothers with flowers along with their cards and certificates at the end of the afternoon. All moms were given photographs of themselves with their children as a memento of their special day.
More than 25 students from Scotch Plains Fanwood High School helped with arts and crafts, meal preparation and serving, as well as set-up and clean-up afterwards. Special thanks go to Daniella Davizon, Spanish teacher and club advisor and Marie Concepcion, Spanish teacher, for their tremendous efforts in organizing their students’ participation. “The students at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School have a very special place in our hearts,” explained Silvia Hernandez, El Centro’s executive director. “They are here helping out with just about every important event we hold for our community. We couldn’t do it without them.” Our fiesta was supported in part by donations from Temple Har Shalom located in Warren, NJ and in the name of Muriel “Tookie” Harris-Bacon, of Peaks Island, ME. We are very grateful for their support.
Fiesta del Día de las Madres
El Centro celebró su primera celebración del Día de las Madres en Viernes, 09 de mayo 2014 a la que asistieron 150 madres orgullosas y niños amorosos. Todos disfrutaron de una deliciosa cena de pasta con ensalada y postre. Los niños prepararon tarjetas del Día de las Madres y los certificados “mamá especial” por sus madres. Gracias a una generosa donación de Nitin Thakkar, los niños fueron pudieron presentar a sus madres con flores junto con sus tarjetas y certificados al final de la tarde. Todas las madres recibieron fotografías de sí mismas con sus hijos como un recuerdo de su día especial.
Más de 25 estudiantes de Scotch Plains Fanwood Secundaria ayudaron con las artes y la artesanía, la preparación de la comida y que sirvieron, así como la configuración y la limpieza después. Un agradecimiento especial a Daniella Davizon, maestra y consejera del club español y Marie Concepcion, profesora de español, por su tremendo esfuerzo en organizar la participación de sus estudiantes. “Los estudiantes en Scotch Plains Fanwood Secundaria tienen un lugar muy especial en nuestros corazones”, explicó Silvia Hernández, directar ejecutiva de El Centro. “Ellos están aquí ayudando en cada evento importante que tenemos para nuestra comunidad. No podríamos hacerlo sin ellos. ” Nuestra fiesta fue financiada en parte por donaciones de Templo Har Shalom ubicados en Warren, Nueva Jersey, y en el nombre de Muriel “Tookie” Harris-Bacon, de Peaks Island, ME. Estamos muy agradecidos por su apoyo.
